27 Self-Love Affirmations to Inspire Love and Acceptance

Self-love affirmations are an important part of your daily routine and if they aren’t yet, they should be!!

Many of us struggle with telling ourselves some pretty terrible things.  I have shared before that my internal conversations used to be awful.

“I am a total failure” was super common.

Here’s the thing, how you talk to yourself and what you believe about yourself MATTERS!!!  We all know if you hear something often enough, you start to believe it.

Think about it.  Why are there commercials?  Advertising?  It’s because marketers KNOW the more times you hear their message, the higher their chance of hooking you on whatever they are selling.

So, if you are telling yourself over and over negative, nasty, disempowering things, it stands to reason you will eventually believe and act as though those things are true.

I love this quote from Louise Hay: (https://www.louisehay.com/)

“The thoughts we choose to think are the tools we use to paint the canvas of our lives.”

Louise Hay

I passionately believe this.  My journey has been long and filled with darkness at times.  Learning that the power of my thoughts and beliefs was at the foundation of my future changed my life.

I think we have all heard the saying “people will live up to the expectations set for them”.  I believe it is equally true that we live up to the expectations we set for ourselves.

If we expect to find sorrow, negativity, and failure in ourselves, we will.  The only person that can change that for you IS YOU.  If you find yourself struggling with beliefs, ideas, and self-talk that is holding you down or holding you back, then now is your time to break free!!

What are Affirmations?

Affirmations are literally anything you think or say.  So, if your thoughts, beliefs, and conversations are leaning toward the negative, then you are cultivating that negativity in your life.

Positive affirmations are a way of retraining your internal self-talk and your basic mindset.  It involves saying, writing, or meditating on positive statements affirming different characteristics or desired outcomes in your life.

If you’re wondering if this is all kind of a silly, woo-woo type practice, take a look at this neuroscience study that documented how self-affirmation activates brain systems.  Pretty fascinating!

How do You Practice Affirmations?

Daily affirmations must become a habit, just like anything else.  It takes practice and consistency to really see progress.

Think of it as an exercise for your mind and soul.  When you start a physical exercise routine, you start slowly and work up.

It may take a while to find the right workout routine to make the gains you are looking for.  It may take time to see the results in your body.  It probably takes time for it to feel like a real habit that you look forward to.

Affirmations are the same way.  You have to practice.  You have to start somewhere and then just keep going with it.  The more you do it, the more natural it will become.

It’s okay if it feels a bit weird, or even embarrassing, at first.  The first time I looked in the mirror and repeated an affirmation to myself, it felt kind of silly.  But you know what?  It also felt kind of great!

If saying it out loud isn’t your thing, then maybe write in a journal and instead of saying it out loud, write it down and say it in your mind.

Don’t just recite it like the alphabet though.  Give it feeling and really mean it when you say/write it.  Remember, when you are complaining about something you probably do that with some passion.

So give your positive affirmations the same passion!  ?

The goal here is to start replacing negative thoughts, beliefs, and self-talk with more positive and encouraging words.

If you are a regular reader, you know my foundation is built on the idea that perfection is NOT required.  (Hello, have you seen my blog name?  LOL)  You don’t have to be “perfect” at this.  You just have to start somewhere.

Where do I Find Self-Love Affirmations?

Even though I am providing a list of self-love affirmations that you might choose from, I want to caution you on something.  Find statements that resonate with YOU!  Don’t try to use all of these.

Pick one or two that really speak to you and start there.  If nothing on the list speaks to you, craft your own.  Positive affirmations work because it is establishing truth that you are tuning into.

If you are trying to use statements that don’t feel true or right for you, then you will not have as good of an experience.

We are not trying to use affirmations to force your mind to believe things that it doesn’t believe.  We are trying to gently learn to reframe things in a positive way that will encourage you to start leaning into your own self-love practice.

Use the self-love affirmations below for inspiration.  If a few really hit home for you, use those.  If not, create your own!  There is NO WRONG way to create an affirmation.  As long as it resonates with your spirit, it is correct!

Use Your Self-Love affirmations!!

Once you have selected/created a few affirmations that “hit home” for you, use them!  Reading this article once won’t do the trick.  You have to create your daily affirmation practice.

I like to write some of my favorites down and place them on my bathroom mirror, computer monitor, or anywhere that I am likely to see them many times a day.  Sometimes I think on them, and sometimes I say them out loud.  I just try to keep them in my mind throughout the day.

Remember, using daily, positive affirmations is only one step in your self-love journey.  I will be writing about more tools soon.  I am a big believer that the more tools you have in your bag, the easier the work is!

But for now, start a new practice and be sure to comment below, and let me know how it’s going for you!  I would also love to know YOUR favorite self-love affirmation to use!

With Love and Acceptance,
